Meadow
I gaze wide-eyed across the open space to the trees opposite me; the valley below is just visible through the tops. Morning sun has yet to melt the mist from low lying areas. Colors blend into one, and nothing seems to have any distinction accept for rugged peaks of a mountain range skirting the horizon. A few stars still twinkle as if to say; don’t forget about us. Nestling back into the peacefulness of my bed, the blades of grass in front of my face are all that I see. I close my eyes.
My thoughts drift over the landscape and into the heavens. I try to imagine the coarse I must take to achieve my goal and reach my destination. The venture will take me through tangled forests, across roaring rivers and up giant mountains. Realizing the colossal task I must bear suddenly multiplies gravity ten-fold, and I feel as though I couldn’t possibly even lift my head. My eyes are open now; I’m back in the comfort of the meadow.
Slowly I raise my head and roll onto my back. Yawning and stretching I stare up at the sky, it’s going to be a beautiful day. For now I am content to lay here and enjoy the warmth of my surroundings, but my purpose must be tended to. The meadow gives me confidence knowing that it will always be here to rejuvenate and inspire me. The meadow is my mother and she wants me to start by putting one foot in front of the other. Enjoy the journey and you will always have a happy life. If you have a happy life you will soar to the tops of the highest mountains and beyond. The trail may falter but keep your eyes on the prize and you will reach the destination. Remember I will always be here to catch you.
